Interview With The Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)

Director: Neil Jordan; Screenplay: Anne Rice; Cinematography: Philippe Rousselot
Cast: Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst
based on a novel by Anne Rice

I vant to suck your blood...Before there was a sparkling Edward Cullen and a constantly shirtless and furry Jacob Black, the vampire world knew a blond and sexy Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt who had just stepped out of a cheesy 80's boy band. Based on a novel by Anne Rice, Interview with the Vampire to me is the forefather of all vampire movies. It is a story of dark and twisted vamps who live forever in the agony of unwanted emotions and the constant reminder of solitude.

I have never been a fan of Tom Cruise. I didn't get his arrogant Top Gun character nor did he score points with me when he was dancing around in his whitey tighties. But every misconception I had with his acting skills faded when I saw his interpretation of Lestat. He was so f*cking epic that all my undying attention went to him. Lestat himself was a vicious and deeply disturbed guy. He found enjoyment in the pain of others, the manipulative side of him dominating his nature. He was Louis' maker and teacher, but it was hard for Lestat, because Louis for one did not want to let go of the human in him. He yearned over his fate, but in the end he had to acknowledge the truth in front of him. Plus there was the whining and the threnody in him, which really annoyed me. In the end all I wanted to say to Louis was for him to shut the hell up. Apart from Lestat, my big favorite was Claudia, the sweet doll like angel with the attitude of a hellcat. If you think your kid throws tantrums then you must watch Interview with the Vampire and take some parenting tips. One other thing to learn from this is how to bind a man. Lestat used the classical soap opera move by giving Louis a little ray of sunshine, Claudia. So ladies, learn from the master.

Interview with the Vampire explores the darker sides of human nature and the unfairness that we sometimes face. It is truly a story of love, lust and betrayal. The vampires keep dwelling on the fact that life as they knew it is over and that they will live forever. So if you ever thought that being a vampire is really awesome and living for an eternity is the coolest thing ever than you must have seen the wrong vampire movie. Before you pollute your brain and kill some of the important brain cells with Twilight, I suggest you watch Interview with the Vampire because it doesn't get better than this.

PS. I bet Bella wouldn't be all lovey-dovey, when it was this guy watching her while she was sleeping.

Side note by Benni:
Women (and gay men) note this - if you want to keep your man around get a kid to tie him down. Tom Cruise knew that. And look where he is now.

See people, we can be educational too.
