Character: Holly Golightly

From Breakfast At Tiffany's
Portrayed by Audrey Hepburn

Holly Golightly was not an easy women in any way. She seemed shallow, out for money with a weakness for jewelry, had her own small caprices and tantrums. But inside she was a broken orphan girl who just didn't want to have it hard anymore. Throughout the movie we see different layers peeled off of her as her past is revealed. This was a woman of taste. Her little black dress and the trench coat are movie costume gold and still after decades Holly Golightly continues to inspire. She also was no wallflower when it came to expressing her thoughts and as her style, her words are still quoted to this day.

Quotes by Holly Golightly:

  • I'm like cat here, a no-name slob. We belong to nobody, and nobody belongs to us. We don't even belong to each other.

  • You could always tell what kind of a person a man thinks you are by the earrings he gives you. I must say, the mind reels.

  • I'm not hotfooting it after Jose, if that's what you think. Ohhh no. As far as I'm concerned he's the future president of nowhere.

  • It's the mistake you always made, Doc, trying to love a wild thing. You were always lugging home wild things. Once it was a hawk with a broken wing... and another time it was a full-grown wildcat with a broken leg.

  •  Ahh... Do I detect a look of disapproval in your eye? Tough beans buddy, 'cause that's the way it's gonna be.

  •  If we're going to be friends let's get one thing straight right now. I hate snoops!

  • A girl can't read that sort of thing without her lipstick.

  • Promise me one thing: don't take me home until I'm drunk - very drunk indeed.

  • It's better to look at the sky than live there. Such an empty place; so vague. Just a country where the thunder goes and things disappear.

  1. I feel I have to learn, and remember, some of these comments. I have a pretty sharp tongue myself, but it's always good to have a few deadly lines in the back of your head, for the moments when you lack inspiration... ;)

  2. The book version of Holly is even more bitchy so you might find some good lines from there.
